Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Stephen is currently a private-pay therapist and does not bill insurance directly. However, upon request, Stephen can provide a superbill, an itemized receipt of services, that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-pocket reimbursement. Many PPO plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network therapy. It’s worth calling your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before your first session.

Yes. Stephen currently offers telehealth therapy for clients in both California and Washington State. All sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, so you can access quality therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own home, without the commute or the waiting room.

Your first session is simply a chance to get acquainted. Stephen will ask about what’s brought you to therapy, a bit about your background, and what you’re hoping to work on. There’s no pressure to share everything at once, the first session is about getting comfortable and making sure it feels like a good fit. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of what working together could look like and what next steps make sense for you.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, it depends entirely on what you’re working through, your goals, and how you respond to the process. Some clients find significant relief in a focused short-term engagement of 8 to 12 sessions. Others prefer ongoing support over a longer period as they work through deeper patterns or navigate continued life challenges. Stephen will work with you to regularly evaluate your progress and adjust the approach as needed so therapy always feels purposeful and moving forward.
